If you are planning to start a degree abroad in autumn 2027, the calendar has already begun. The Common App opened on 1 August 2026, the first UCAS deadline falls in the middle of October, and Australian universities are closing February-intake applications between now and December. This guide puts every major 2027 deadline in one place for Indian students, country by country, and shows where the funding decisions need to sit so that a loan sanction never becomes the thing that holds up a visa.

One warning before the dates. Universities publish deadlines by programme, not by campus, and they change them. Treat everything below as the pattern to plan around, then confirm the exact date on the programme page of each course you apply to.

United States: Fall 2027

Undergraduate

The Common Application for the 2026–27 cycle opened on 1 August 2026. Early Decision and Restrictive Early Action close on 1 November 2026 at almost every selective university, including Harvard, Stanford and Penn. Regular Decision closes between 1 and 15 January 2027; the Ivies sit at 1–2 January and most peers within the first two weeks of the month. A second early round, ED II and EA II, also runs 1–15 January, and a handful of public flagships extend Regular Decision to 1 February.

Early Decision is binding. If you are relying on financial aid or an education loan, the ED contract is only sensible when you already know how the funding will work, because you will have committed before you can compare offers.

Master’s and graduate programmes

Graduate deadlines are set by department. For computer science, engineering and data programmes the pattern for Fall 2027 is 1 December 2026 to 15 January 2027. Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science is a useful benchmark: early deadline 18 November 2026, final deadline 9 December 2026, with a few programmes running a single 15 January 2027 deadline. Applying before the early date also cuts CMU’s application fee.

Some programmes run much later — several MS in Computer Science and professional master’s programmes at large public universities accept applications into spring — but the strong programmes with funding and assistantships are almost all December.

What US funding needs from you

Before a university issues the Form I-20 you need for the F-1 visa, its designated school official must see evidence you can cover the first year’s tuition, living costs, books and travel. A loan sanction letter is accepted evidence. Most I-20s are issued between March and May 2027, which means the loan needs to be assessed in December or January, not after the admit arrives. Our page on pre-admission loan approval explains how that works when you do not yet have an offer.

United Kingdom: 2027 entry

UCAS deadlines

UCAS runs two hard deadlines for 2027 entry. Applications to Oxford, Cambridge and all medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses must reach UCAS by 18:00 UK time on 15 October 2026. Every other undergraduate course has an equal-consideration deadline of 18:00 on 13 January 2027. Universities must consider every application received by that time equally; anything later is considered only if places remain.

Taught master’s

UK master’s courses do not use UCAS. Most run rolling admissions from October 2026 and close when full, which for popular programmes at Imperial, UCL, Edinburgh and Manchester can be as early as January or February 2027. Programmes tied to scholarships usually have earlier internal deadlines — Chevening for 2027–28 closed on 6 October 2026, and Commonwealth Scholarship deadlines fall in October too.

Two UK rule changes that affect the 2027 cohort

First, the money you must show for a Student visa is rising. Until 29 November 2026 the requirement is £1,529 a month in London and £1,171 outside, for up to nine months. For applications from 30 November 2026 it becomes £1,570 and £1,203 a month — a maximum of £14,130 in London and £10,827 elsewhere — under the Statement of Changes HC 584 published on 3 September 2026. Anyone applying for a visa after that date should budget on the new figures.

Second, the Graduate Route visa, which lets you work in the UK after your degree, drops from two years to 18 months for applications submitted from 1 January 2027. PhD graduates keep three years. This does not change your application deadline, but it should inform your comparison of the UK against Canada and Australia, which we cover in our guide to education loans for the UK.

Canada: September 2027 intake

Canadian universities publish deadlines by faculty and programme, and there is no national application system for graduate study. For a September 2027 start, application windows open in late 2026 and most close between December 2026 and March 2027. The University of Waterloo’s graduate programmes commonly close on 1 December 2026. The University of Toronto and McGill sit around 15 January 2027 for international applicants, though some McGill programmes close earlier. UBC deadlines range from November 2026 to April 2027 depending on the department.

The cap and the money

Canada is still operating under an international student cap. For 2026, IRCC expects to issue up to 408,000 study permits including 155,000 to newly arriving students; the 2027 figure — IRCC’s working number is 150,000 new arrivals — will be confirmed when the 2027–2029 Immigration Levels Plan is tabled by 1 November 2026. Provincial attestation letters remain part of the process for most applicants.

The living-cost proof also changed this month. For study permit applications on or after 1 September 2026, a single applicant outside Quebec must show CAD 23,448 for living expenses, up from CAD 22,895. That is on top of first-year tuition and travel. Many students meet it through a Guaranteed Investment Certificate. Our Canada education loan page covers how a sanction can fund the GIC.

Australia: February and July 2027 intakes

Australia runs two main intakes. February 2027 (Semester 1) is the larger one with the widest course choice and most scholarships. Applications typically open in August and close between September and December 2026, with the top universities — Melbourne, Sydney, UNSW, Monash, ANU, Queensland — closing between late October and December. The July 2027 (Semester 2) intake has fewer programmes but is strong in IT, business and science, and its deadlines fall between February and May 2027.

For the visa you must show a year of living costs — AUD 29,710 for the primary applicant, plus AUD 10,394 for a partner and AUD 4,449 per child — separately from tuition and travel. Australia has also tightened the Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa’s age, English and duration rules, so check current eligibility before choosing a course on the strength of post-study work rights.

Germany: winter semester 2027/28

German universities publish 15 July 2027 as the standard winter-semester deadline, and for many public universities that is genuinely the date. Two things make it misleading for Indian applicants.

First, universities that use uni-assist need it to check and forward your file, and that takes four to eight weeks. The practical deadline for a uni-assist application is therefore 31 May 2027. Second, the competitive TU9 programmes set their own, earlier dates. Technical University of Munich’s popular master’s programmes close between March and April 2027; RWTH Aachen and LMU Munich take applications directly through their own portals, each with programme-specific dates.

Germany’s summer semester (starting April 2027) has a 15 January 2027 deadline at most universities, but fewer master’s programmes admit in summer.

Money for Germany

Most public universities charge no tuition, only a semester contribution of roughly €300–400. The exception is Bavaria: TUM charges non-EU master’s students €4,000 or €6,000 per semester depending on the programme. For the visa, you need a blocked account holding €11,904 for the year (€992 a month). A loan sanction can fund the blocked account; see our Germany education loan guide.

Putting the funding on the same calendar

Every deadline above has a financial counterpart that arrives three to six months later: the I-20, the CAS, the Canadian study permit’s proof of funds, the Australian Genuine Student assessment, the German blocked account. Students who lose time almost never lose it at the application stage. They lose it in April, when an offer is in hand, the university wants a deposit, and the loan has not yet been assessed.

The fix is simple. Start the loan conversation when you start applying. A pre-admission assessment in November or December 2026 tells you what you can borrow, which route — secured or unsecured — fits your family’s profile, and what documents the lender will want. When the admit arrives, the file is already built and a sanction letter follows in days rather than weeks. The loan approval timeline page sets out what each stage takes.

Rule of thumb for 2027: whatever your earliest application deadline is, begin the loan assessment in the same month. For US Early Decision and UCAS October applicants, that means now.

A single checklist for the 2027 cycle

  • September–October 2026: Finalise shortlist. UCAS 15 October for Oxbridge and medicine. Chevening closes 6 October. Australian February-intake applications go in.
  • November 2026: US ED/REA 1 November. CMU early deadline 18 November. UK maintenance requirement rises on 30 November — plan on the new figures.
  • December 2026: Most US graduate deadlines. Waterloo 1 December. Begin pre-admission loan assessment.
  • January 2027: UCAS 13 January. UofT and McGill 15 January. US Regular Decision. UK Graduate Route becomes 18 months for new applicants.
  • February–April 2027: Offers arrive. Compare funding. TUM and other competitive German programmes close. Australian July-intake applications open.
  • May 2027: Accept and pay deposits. uni-assist practical deadline 31 May. Sanction letters for I-20 and CAS.
  • June–July 2027: Visa applications, blocked accounts, GICs, disbursement to universities.

Frequently asked questions

When does the Common App open for Fall 2027?

It opened on 1 August 2026. Early Decision and Restrictive Early Action deadlines at most selective universities are 1 November 2026; Regular Decision closes between 1 and 15 January 2027.

What is the UCAS deadline for 2027 entry?

Oxford, Cambridge and all medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses close at 18:00 UK time on 15 October 2026. Every other undergraduate course has an equal-consideration deadline of 18:00 on 13 January 2027.

Is the German deadline really 15 July 2027?

15 July is the official date most public universities publish for the winter semester, but uni-assist needs four to eight weeks to process a file, so Indian applicants should treat 31 May 2027 as the practical cut-off. Competitive TUM programmes close earlier, between March and April.

When should I start my education loan for a 2027 admit?

Before the admit, not after. Pre-admission assessment in November or December 2026 means a sanction letter is ready when the I-20, CAS or CoE needs it in April or May 2027.
